Jacob Moe appointed as CEVA's managing director for south China
CEVA Logistics has announced that Jacob Moe has taken over as the new managing director for south China, having joined the company from Damco, where he was combined chief commercial and chief operations officer for Damco Africa and the Middle East.

Based in Hong Kong, Mr Moe will hold responsibility for CEVA's business in South China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Over his 14 years with Damco, an AP Moller Maersk unit, he held positions within key account management, country management, operations and sales, focusing on logistics. He has previously spent four years working in Hong Kong and Shanghai and has also held positions in New Zealand, Indonesia, the Netherlands and South Africa, a statement said.

Mr Moe takes over from Connie Tang, who is assuming a new role as vice president of strategic development in China.

"I am delighted to join CEVA and I look forward to leading our experienced South China team. We will continue to focus on delivering value to our customers' supply chains," said Mr Moe.

Said CEVA vice president Martin Thaysen: "I am very confident that Jacob's talent, experience and track record will be a valuable addition to the China leadership team. Our focus on how we service and develop our customers, along with our initiatives around organisational development is a great match with Jacob's capabilities. Kuehne + Nagel CEO to step down due to ill health, chairman to take helm
KUEHNE + NAGEL chief executive Reinhard Lange will step down on May 7 for health reasons, but will act as a consultant until the termination of his contract at the end of the year.

The group announced in its newly released annual financial report that the board of directors has accepted a request from Mr Lange to release him from his duties.

In the wake of this news, Karl Gernandt, chairman of the board of directors said the group will "realign its management and organisational structures in order to react more quickly and efficiently to market demands and growth potentials", especially in contract as well as road and rail logistics to boost the earnings of these units.

Mr Gernandt together with the business unit heads Hans-Otto Schacht (sea freight), Tim Scharwath (airfreight), Stefan Paul (road and rail logistics) and Detlef Trefzger (contract logistics) will be responsible for the implementation of the aligned structure. It added CFO, Gerard van Kesteren, will also have an important role in "ensuring the unchanged performance orientation of the group".

Mr Lange's career with the company spans four decades. He first joined its Bremen branch, and was later appointed a member of the management boards in Asia Pacific and in Germany, before he became managing director of the organisation in Canada. In 1999, he was appointed to the management board of Kuehne + Nagel International AG.

CEVA appoints Thai manager to become chief of operations for China
NETHERLAND's based CEVA has appointed a new chief of China operations, Jaap Bruining, who will work in Shanghai, bringing eight years of operational experience within CEVA.

Mr Bruining's career with CEVA began as global LEAN (cost cutting) director, he then took on his current role as vice president of operations for contract logistics in Thailand.

Before joining CEVA, Bruining worked for Booz&Company as a strategy development, project management, and organisational change consultant for two and a half years and before that for Shell International Chemicals as a production engineer for four years, both based in the Netherlands.

"With his background in both strategy and operations, he brings a good mix of understanding customers' overall needs, the market and operational execution. Jaap's experience and leadership track record will be a great contribution to CEVA's China team," said CEVA China vice president Martin Thaysen.

Gadola steps down, Panalpina names Stefan Karlen as Asia Pacific CEO
PANALPINA has announced that Stefan Karlen, managing director south east Asia, has taken over as regional CEO Asia Pacific, following the departure of Marco Gadola, who will pursue a "career outside of logistics".

"Stefan has a profound understanding of our business and our culture," Panalpina CEO Monika Ribar said of Mr Karlen who joined the company in 1997 and has held several management positions in Europe and Asia. In his last position he was responsible for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Of Mr Gadola, Ms Ribar said: "We regret the departure of Marco because he is a well experienced manager and contributed a lot to Panalpina's performance."
